Top Mobile Phones of 2009 Each year the consumer is faced with an increasingly tough decision. `Which of the latest mobile phones to hit the market should I choose?` With 2009 ushering in some new technological additions to the already impressive line up of mobile functions, this question has never been more important. As such the following analysis of the top mobile phones of 2009 should help make the decision just a tiny bit easier. iPhone 3Gs Still dominating the market at the top end, the iPhone has sold over 30 million units since its release. Now with the latest version out there the competition is still playing catch-up in some areas. Aesthetically the 3Gs adds very little to the already gorgeous design, save for a dirt resistant coating on the touch screen interface. The main improvements have been made to the software, with the ability to cut, copy and paste just about anything into text messages, emails and using the web browser. On the down side the 3Gs may have an improved 3.2 megapixel camera, but it is by no means a quality camera phone - yet. Nokia N97 Nokia used to be the kings of the smartphone market and it is hard to criticise them for the sheer volume of handsets they produce. The N97 is a touch screen device that it is hard to label as a `phone` as it has aspirations far above its basic function. With a focus on multimedia functionality and enhanced pocket PC features, it also has a full QWERTY keypad housed beneath the screen. Some have complained of its bland visuals and unresponsive touch screen, but in terms of technology this is one of the smartest phones around. Samsung Genio Touch Aimed at the younger end of the market, the Genio Touch is a messaging touch screen phone that is saleable because of its low price rather than its high-tech innards. With a 2 megapixel camera and decent array of widgets and apps it will appeal to the teenage market and it is designed with pleasant curves and interchangeable multicoloured battery covers to add personality and flare. It is just a pity that in almost every other way it feels slightly outdated. LG Chocolate BL40 This phone looks like something from a sci-fi film. It has an ultra-widescreen display with a native aspect ratio of 21:9. That means not only can you watch all of your favourite films as they were intended, you can also fit multiple options and widgets onto the screen at the same time. Negative comments have been levelled at the slightly overwhelming menu system, but with a 5 megapixel camera and an out of this world design, the LG Chocolate BL40 is a certain hit. Samsung Omnia 2 The first thing you will notice is the massive 3.7 inch AMOLED screen. Without going into the technological wizardry of the acronym, that means that it has the brightest and most detailed screen of any mobile device. It also means that despite its size it is able to have longer battery life than conventional mobile phones with large screens. |
